Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is a carbon credit?
Carbon credits are marketable permits that represent 1 tonne of CO2 that has been reduced or removed from the atmosphere. These permits allow the buying companies to emit a certain amount of CO2 or greenhouse gases.
-
What are the carbon markets?
Carbon credits are traded in what is known as the carbon markets. There are two different carbon markets: 1) The compliance market. Where companies have the obligation to purchase a certain amount of carbon credits to comply with the emission level set by the authorities. 2) The voluntary market. Where companies purchase carbon credits beyond their obligations to meet more demanding goals like Net-Zero strategies.
-
What are Net-Zero strategies?
These strategies aim to delete the environmental footprint of companies, people, or processes by reducing CO2 or greenhouse gas emissions. It is called "Net-Zero" because it is tough to reduce all emissions; purchasing permits is necessary to balance the residual emissions, and that is why carbon credits are so important.

What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
